| Grants and Subsidies
There are several programs in Canada that award grants and subsidies to existing magazines. Currently there is no specific funding available to new publications. Always check the eligibility criteria of each program you are researching and talk to a representative of the funding organization before proceeding with an application.
The Canada Periodical Fund (of the Department of Canadian Heritage) offers grants under three "components:"
Aid to Publishers Business Innovation Collective Initiatives
The Canada Council for the Arts offers grants to art and literary magazines.
In Ontario, the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) offers funding to eligible magazines based in the province.
Non-profit organizations that publish a magazine may want to investigate the grants available through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
