Canada Council Benchmarks Study
In 2011, Magazines Canada, in consultation with its Cultural Magazines Committee, commissioned a Benchmarks study of data contained in grant applications received by the Canada Council for the Arts in the course of the 2010 funding round. This is the third Benchmarks study, a follow-up to the 2010 version. The first study was completed in 2000.
The 2011 Benchmarks study provides a new "industry portrait" that cultural magazines can use as a basis on which they can compare themselves to their peers in a variety of categories: circulation, marketing, promotion, editorial and production costs, overhead, etc.
Magazines Canada thanks the Canada Council for the Arts, Simon Fraser University, Rowland Lorimer and Stephen Osborne for their exemplary work on this study.
